Exit Disneyland and welcome Sweet Home Chicago

Today started at 3.45am and Rohan will be happy to know that all of her boys cleaned their teeth and put deodorant on, even at that time of day, and we made it down for the Supershuttle at 4.20am. A fast trip to LAX and were checked in and ready to fly to Chicago at 7.15am.
This is a photo of a dwarf because I love dwarfs. Sorry!!
We arrived and checked into the Embassy Suites, on North State and Ohio, then the first stop was the Nike shop on Michigan Avenue. Matt noticed that if  you look closely at the photo above even the hand rails are held on by Nike ticks, detail!!
Then down to the 8 story Sport Shop which you can see in the background of this shot taken at the "Rock and Roll" McDonald's. The first McDonald's food we have had in the US.
Chicago is the third largest city in the US behind LA and New York and prides itself on being green and clean. It is easy to get around and the architecture is amazing. So I took the boys on a quick tour, I may have forgot that they are 15, oh well I enjoyed it.
When I was here 2 years ago there was a huge statue of a man and woman at the southern end of the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) but this visit they have disappeared to be replaced by a massive statue of Marilyn Munro? Jack will appreciate how huge this work of art was (I wonder where the couple went?).
The boys suffering through the tour haha!!
More shots of the Buildings, don't worry there aren't too many. (Sorry about the quality it is dusk) This is at the bridge which actually opens. For those who have played "Driver" if you get a good run up you can jump these bridges as they open haha!!
The final shot this time it's the Chicago River taken from the bridge. Would you believe in 1871, to stop the major pollution of Lake Michigan from the numerous stockyards/abattoirs that used to populate this region, engineers actually managed to reverse the flow of the river and take the waste away from the lake (obviously not that popular with those who lived up river).
Well that is all for tonight, we are all "Nakajima'd" (a Binghamism that only we understand sorry) 2hrs of sleep and a big day tomorrow means that we are looking forward to bed tonight.
Lollapalooza has been on all week and tomorrow night the Foo Fighters will be closing the show. It is totally sold out but we will be able to hang near the fence (a la Jackson and I in 2009) and catch a bit of a view as well as listen to them perform.
I hope that your Sunday afternoon goes well in Newie and Jakarta.
Love to all from the Aussiebinghams xxx

  1. hey, don't apologise for showing thebnoys around! They need a balance of learning and shopping haha!
They may seem bored but they take at least some if it in and one day they will be glad for all that their old man taught them and showed them.
Great photos! I don't have anywhere near the fond memories of Chicago as you have made with the Jack and the boys in more recent years. In fact, did i actually go there??!
Nice to have cleen teeth at any hour of the day and now that you will be running into Ronald McDonald House people from all over the world, all the more important!
I too wonder where the 'couple' went? and why Marilyn took their place?
I hope you all sleep well tonight. Love you loads x 3 xxx xxx

  2. Yes you were in Chicago but we were at McDonald's HU and didn't really get downtown. We went to Ginos East pizza, Bob Evans breakfast and spent time at the shops at midnight with our mate Kevin "scone".

  6. Ahh, like looking into the past, been there, been there, been there, done that haha its all good fun. looks like you guys are having a dead-set ball.

    Btw did some research...
"The farmer and his sister are headed for downtown Mesa, Ariz. The sculpture will then make an appearance during the month of August at the Indiana State Fair. Farrell did not know what will take iits place."
thats a good 15 minutes of googling to find out where the farmers went, it was there since december 2008 and was taken down July 26, 2010 to go to that fair.
