Friday - Skate Deck and Hardware and Huntington Beach US Pro Surf

Today we decided to buy a full day bus pass, at $4 each, and use it to make our way to Huntington Beach, about 90 minutes on the bus, where the US Pro Surf Competition was on as well as a major skating Comp. First port of call was "Identity Board Shop" about 4 miles away where a new deck and hardware were purchased then an hour or so later we hit Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach is famous as the beach where surfing basically started in 1914 in the US and when you hear the reference to "Surf City" this is the place. They have even registered the name so that no-one else can use it.
It was a steamy 30C and we took a break at "Jacks" excellent (you guessed it) Burgers and fries right on the beach.
We're not walking on the road, this is just the skating, walking and riding path and the beach is again about 100 metres to the left
This is a shot of the beach set up. The large tub this side of the Pergolas is actually a massive BBQ Drum and these are scattered all across the beach with many families setting up around them and cooking in them. Smells amazing like wood fired webbers.
This is a shot of just some of the Beach Volley Ball courts.
It's hard to see them but here there are 4 rows of 3 courts (12) and there are many more.
Dan loved this tent CCS - Skate Board mecca
The size of the crowd on the beach.
The size of the crowd on the Pier, packed out.
The crowd in the main street!! You could hardly move haha.
Mr T was there in front of "Jacks Surf Shop"
Dan getting autographs from the Skate professionals including Raven Tershy, X games gold medallist
The Walk of fame is in the main street beside Jacks Surf Shop - Kelly Slater naturally
And our very own Layne Beachley. I looked everywhere for Mark Richards but there were thousands of people standing all over everything and I didn't find him.
They were advertising the Australian Open Surf Comp. including a chance to win a trip to Manly.
What do you think of this Sand sculpture!! A little bit of Aussie on Huntington Beach.
About 6pm we decided to head back to Anaheim. What a bus ride a car crash, 3 Ambulances, Police cars parked across and intersection. Mad smelly blokes who spit when they talk to you hahaha. Elderley Mexican ladies that talk across you whilst standing on your feet know matter how much you try to get away. Unbelievable experience hahaha!!

A pretty neat Dodge Challenger in the home of Chip Foose - Huntington Beach.
Then our connecting bus was 40 minutes late!! got back to Anaheim about 8.45pm just in time for a quick change and off to Disneyland for a couple of hours, unfortunately the Rollercoaster was closed at 8.30 tonight, bummer!!
Dinner at Denny's and I'm finishing off the blog at 1.30pm - mental!!

We are getting picked up at 4.20am (that's 3hrs from now aaah) to fly to Chicago at 7.15am.
Wish you all a great Saturday in Australia and I'll catch up with you all in 24hrs.
Love to you all - The Aussie Bingham's abroad xxx

  2. Hey there, looking good and more place names which yell from the past. I don't know how you are keeping up the pace mate, but go for it (it gets harder in a few more years, quite a few yet for you, believe me i know)! Maybe you can doze a little in Chicago, :). Safe travels. gray.
